In my own way

Sometimes I will feel moved to do something for a random stranger. Sometimes it is filling their gas tank, paying for their groceries, or buying them lunch. I'm not actually telling you this to toot my own horn, but to share how convicted I was today about my attitude.

I went to the grocery store this morning and noticed this lady shopping and was being slightly judging, actually a lot judging about what she was buying. It wasn't fair to her and hello pot, I'm the kettle. I pass her a few times in different aisles and end up behind her in the checkout line. Looking frazzled she hands some items to the cashier and says she got too many other things.

I softly tell the cashier to ring up those items and I will pay for them for her. He does so and I ask her to just wait a minute and tell her I'm getting her these items and comment that I noticed her looking frazzled. Once she gives the token protest of not needing them she thanks me and tells me her story. Her father is dying in another state and she was trying to buy items that would be easy for her fives kids to make while she goes to visit her dad.

  1. Despite my bad attitude God used me to bless this lady. She was grateful, but I also think she appreciated being noticed.
  2. Despite my bad attitude the cashier was blessed by witnessing a random act of kindness. I was able to witness to the cashier about kindness that I received.
  3. Because of my own greed, thoughts, and attitude I stole and discouraged my own blessing.
In the long run maybe these people will never remember me, or maybe they will remember this one time a stranger noticed them and provided an immediate need. Helping them reminds me of all the times my family and I have been helped by strangers, other family members, friends, and our churches. Helping them is a reminder that God has blessed me and He is my provider.

Repurpose Redux

I've had this blog for about 12 years and have done nothing of value with it. Maybe this will be the year that I do.

I say that about a lot of things. Maybe this will be the year that I meet my goals, that I lose weight, that I get out of debt or fall in love.

So now let's keep track and see what happens when no one reads this. lol.

Welcome to Song 2.

Easy Taco Soup - Edit

I made some delicious taco soup for lunch tomorrow and it was super easy. I made it meatless to fit in with the fast that my church is doing*.

I based it off this recipe: Easy Taco Soup

However this is my ingredient list:
  • 1 (1.25 ounce) package taco seasoning mix**
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 (16? ounce) can red kidney beans, rinsed and drained***
  • 1 (20? ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained***
  • 1 (16? ounce) can garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained***
  • 1 (15 ounce) can pinto beans, rinsed and drained***
  • 1 (16 ounce) bag whole kernel corn, frozen
  • 2 (14 ounce) cans diced tomatoes with green chile peppers
  • 1 (1 ounce) package ranch salad dressing mix****
Throw everything in a large pot and simmer until you think it is done. I cooked mine for about an hour so the flavors had time to mingle.

Notes about my recipe:

*I think I cheated a bit... Especially with the seasoning, I am unclear if it is allowed. I also don't cut out the dairy because it is something that I need medically for my health and bones.

** In place of taco seasoning use just chili powder, and cumin. and maybe black pepper. Just season until you like it!

*** I think you can use just about any bean you like in this recipe. Having a variety of beans makes it more interesting. Usually I would not used canned beans for the fast, but we were ill prepared this week and didn't have the beans to soak until I went to the store today. The rest of the recipes using beans will be made with dry beans that have been soaked.

****I used the package because I didn't think to search this before I went to the store.

Ranch seasoning:
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/8 tsp dill

Repurpose

I've had this blog for about 8 years now and have done nothing with it. Until today! I am going to use this place to share my recipes, fashion choices, and maybe a few craft projects.

I will try to keep things in order and non-rambling.
